Boxing Day cancelled
It is with great regret that we have decided to cancel our dance tour of the Claygate pubs on Boxing Day this year. This was not an easy decision to make as it will be the first time in nearly 70 years that the event will not take place.
We have looked at the rules and whilst we believe that we could perform a Jig - just one musician and one dancer to tour the pubs, we would need to ensure that we did not attract a crowd around us which we could not guarantee. The real decider for us was that all the pubs must serve a 'substantial meal' to anyone drinking. We can manage a pint or often just at half at each pub - but none of us could manage five substantial meals!
Sadly, the biggest loser will be the Woking & Sam Beare Hospices, as our collection on Boxing Day is passed to them. The members of the side will be making a donation to the Hospice, and we would welcome any of our supporters to do the same.
We will be back dancing in Claygate at some stage. We want to thank everyone for their support in the past and we encourage the men of Claygate and around to join us to protect this tradition for the future. We are always in need of new dancers.
